Portando oltre l’idea di una stratificazione polifonica emergente dal differenziarsi di uno strato di note accentate rispetto ad altre non accentate, ho qui voluto giocare una carta estrema mettendo il pianista di fronte a note virtuali. La partitura contempla infatti una scrittura mista, fatta di note ordinarie –con o senza accenti– e note che, per avere origine da una dinamica “dal nulla” sono effettivamente fatte di un nulla sonoro, scritte sulla carta per indicare il gesto della mano che sfiora il tasto senza affondarlo. In molte parti il brano sfrutta una successione di altezze continuamente ripetuta ma diversamente filtrata da questa “notazione virtuale” che rende udibile frammenti melodici e ritmici sempre diversi. Il pezzo si articola in sei momenti disposti a specchio (A B C C’ B’ A’), è dedicato al pianista Lorenzo Meo ed è edito da Ars Publica.
The piece points out the dangerous ontologic oscillation between presence and absence, through a particular notation that requires the performer to “play” some virtual notes that will never be heard. The idea is to get beyond the polyphonic stratification emerging from the different layers of a texture in which there are notes marked with accent among others not accented. Therefore the piece is structured around notes standing out of a background which ranges from “mezzoforte” to “pianissimo” up to silence, getting different grades of presence. The piece is divided into six mirrored parts (A B C C’ B’ A’), in four of which the silence is not expressed by pauses but by a different note-heads that indicate that the pianist has to just brush by the keyboard with his fingers and perform a half gesture of playing without pressing any key. In these parts I use repeated rows of pitches that are filtered in different ways in order to get always varied melodic and rhythmic fragments. This piece is dedicated to the pianist Lorenzo Meo and published by Ars Publica.
